Jeff Chace

CIMI Director

My path to Guided Discoveries began when I realized that working in a lab researching lobster and brook trout was not as engaging as I had hoped.

Looking for a change, I applied to be an outdoor educator on Cape Cod. After one week I was hooked. I loved teaching in the outdoors and sharing my passion for the environment. After I left Cape Cod, I spent several years teaching at outdoor education programs in Florida and San Diego. Each experience reinforced my love of teaching students about the ocean. I eventually landed on Catalina Island at Cherry Cove as a marine science instructor. Throughout my tenure with Guided Discoveries, I have had the opportunity to serve as a marine science instructor, aquarist, assistant program director, captain, founding program director of our Fox Landing facility, Catalina Sea Camp summer program director, and as the Toyon Bay program director. My role at Toyon Bay is a perfect fit for me. It combines all of my passions; the ocean, education, kids, and amazing co-workers.

Guided Discoveries has provided me with incredible life experiences, co-workers that became lifelong friends, a chance to make an impact in students’ lives, and an amazing place to share with my wife and daughter.

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.
